The Emotional Effect of Animated Storytelling
Capstone Project
Animation is a very powerful medium, contrary to what many people think. The combination of audio and drawn visuals allows for a truly immersive experience appealing to the audience’s emotions. However, the audience is not the only one impacted. This project will explore beyond what the audience feels and answer the question can animated storytelling reflect the creator’s real emotional journey throughout their life. In order to prove that this effect is very much possible, a pitch bible outlining 3 tv-seasons will be made along with a 30-second animated segment showing what the final product would look like. The pitch bible will consist of concept drawings, character descriptions, setting descriptions, and more exploring the story’s structure. Furthermore, as research shows, as the creator interacts with this story more and more, they will eventually show more awareness of their emotional journey and begin reflecting it in their work more. By the end, the structure of the story will be able to reflect the struggles the creator goes through as a part of multiple marginalized communities. Through this, the impact on audience members with similar experiences will be able to see themselves in a medium they are not often represented in and connect to it.
